Abstract :

Disposal of solid waste without any proper practice is one of the most common techniques in developing countries. The percolating water passed through the wastes becomes contaminated and dissolved soluble organic and in organic as well as suspended particles. The contaminated fluid i.e. leachate percolates through soil and affects the soil quality as well as ground water. Factors like precipitation, runoff, infiltration, evaporation, ambient temperature, waste composition, waste density, moisture content of waste, depth of waste fill affects the production of leachate from the landfill. In this research leachate characterization was studied which was generating from municipal solid waste dumping site of Gandhinagar city of Gujarat along with ground water samples. Various physico-chemical parameters like pH, Electrical conductivity, Total dissolved solids,Chemical oxygen demands; Alkalinity and Calcium (Ca 2+) were analyzed and reported and were found more than the prescribed limits. The ground water near to dump site was found to be polluted and cannot be used directly for potable and non potable uses without having further treatment.

Abstract :

Metallic destruction is a plentiful utterance regarding the crude refining industry while it is causing undesirable coercion on the durability. The investigations of the impact of dominant corrosive properties of two different types of crude oils on the corrosion rates of seven different types of ferrous metals, qualitative analysis of the corrosion, and analysis of the decay of the metals into crude oils were the pivotal objectives of this study. The significant corrosive compounds of both crude oils were tested by standard methods and instruments. A prepared set of similar sized metal coupons were immersed separately in both crude oils to determine their corrosion rates in order of after certain immersion periods by weight loss method while observing the corroded metal surfaces through the 400X lens of an optical microscope. The decayed metal concentrations into crude oils were tested. The deductions of the initial hardness of metal coupons were tested. There were found lower corrosion rates from stainless steels in both crude oils, higher corrosive tendency from the salts in crude oils, formations of the FeS, Fe2O3, corrosion cracks and cavities, decay of ferrous and copper into crude oils regarding some metals and the reductions of the initial hardness of each metal coupon after corrosion.

Abstract :

This research present the extension of Lindley distribution using Beta distribution to obtain its hybrid version called Beta-HyperLindley Distribution. The Beta-HyperLindley Distribution was developed and some of its properties were derived while log-likelihood method of estimation was proposed for parameter estimation. The developed distribution can be used to capture non-normal process because of it statistical significance in modeling and its vast shape ranging from bimodal, highly skewed and heavily tailed.

Abstract :

This paper proposes an Improved Gravitational Search Algorithm (IGSA) to solve the optimal reactive power problem. Corresponding to the superior fitness value with incessant movement of motion, the largest mass of the particle occupy the most excellent position in the end which lead to optimal solution of the problem. In order to perk up the optimization accurateness and convergence speed of gravitational search algorithm, mechanism of adaptive mixed arbitrary mutation is intermingled with standard GSA algorithm , such that each particle has the probability of mutation at any time, and the number of particles that modify in the population have a tendency to diminish with the augment of iteration times. Also in this work improvement of Gravitational Search Algorithm is done through by adding Metropolis principle for particle position updating. Proposed Improved Gravitational Search Algorithm (IGSA) has been tested in standard IEEE 14,300 bus test system and simulation results show the projected algorithm reduced the real power loss considerably.

Abstract :

Strip packaging machines are very common in pharmaceutical industries. In a conventional non-automated strip packaging machine the process of tablet drooping and strip cutting is performed using mechanical system based on cams. Basic drawback of such machines is that, mechanical parts have to be changed every time the product changes or the strip specification changes. This involves time and requires expertise. Also it involves lots of wastage in initial setting. This paper presents system automation of such strip packaging machine using programmable logic controller (PLC). As a part of solution the process of tablet dropping and strip cutting is automated. Main elements used in the proposed system include PLC, human machine interface (HMI), rotary encoders, proximity sensors and pneumatic system. Ladder diagram has been used to design system software. Field trial of proposed machine was taken for period of around two months and its performance is compared with the conventional machine. It is observed that for every new batch process as the proposed system do not need major change of mechanical parts it leads to saving of around 80% time in fitting and initial calibration. It also substantially reduces wastage of tablets and packing material and provides more precise operation compared to conventional machine.
